Responsible for strategic positioning of SAQA and the National Qualifications Framework, as well as strategic planning, corporate services, project management and operational support across SAQA. Before this he was Executive Officer: Corporate communications for the Hospital Association of SA, a journalist on DRUM Magazine and a counsellor for Lifeline Southern Africa, responsible for services related to HIV/AIDS and gender violence. He has also been a teacher, fieldworker on an international migration study and researcher on an indigenous technology programme. He has been a member of a number of committees in the field of health data. His professional life, spanning private and public sectors, and health and education, has given him exposure to the challenges involved in putting policy into practice, including in the highly contested areas of National Health Insurance and Recognition of Prior Learning. These experiences have underlined the role of advocacy and communication in both influencing policy and assisting in its implementation.
